Cake tales: Eggscellent

Why did the chicken cross the road

Mike raises chickens in his spare time.  He frequently brings in free-range eggs for his colleagues at work.  So when Mike was moving jobs, there was only one way to say goodbye…An egg cake.

I toyed with the idea of making an oval egg shaped cake with the best before date as his leaving date; but as eggs are a symbol of life and mortality, I thought I best not finalise his dispatch date.  Instead I went for this cartoon-like version of a sunny-side up cake: Vanilla Sponge (with free-range eggs of course)* with Vanilla Buttercream.

Egg Cake

Mike and his family enjoyed the cake…and his colleagues were on a roll with the egg jokes.

*I always bake cakes using free-range eggs
