It’s a well documented fact that I baked my first cake when I was eight years old on the Queen’s birthday during the Silver Jubilee.

It’s Her Majesty’s birthday today.

Happy Birthday Ma’am!

To celebrate the Queen’s birthday and to celebrate the first celebration cake that I ever made, I baked and decorated this special cake.

Who’d have thunk it…An activity to while away a rainy day in the Easter holidays would turn into my passion, up to 35 years later.

I presented this cake to a fabulous group of pensioners at Highbury New Park Day Centre in Islington, and they loved it.

Just a special note to parents: I don’t have a picture of my first cake, but I can still remember it in my mind’s eye…All those drawings and designs that clutter up your home, all those dreams and schemes your children draw and create now, hold onto them…When those dreams become reality, they will be far more valuable than you could ever dream or imagine them to be.

Happy Birthday Ma'am!
