Selfridges was the first department store in London to unveil its Christmas windows this year and officially get the Christmas season underway.
The windows were unveiled on 24 October. This year’s theme is The Wish List – with each window showcasing a giant version of over a dozen of the most wanted gifts on the ultimate Christmas wish list this year.
The scheme includes a giant gingerbread reproduction of a fantasy version of London featuring iconic buildings which were destroyed in the past and others which were designed but never built (including the controversial National Gallery extension by Lord Rogers). Gingerbread houses are also on the ultimate Christmas wish list this year.
The gingerbread reproduction of London, called Lost London, is designed in collaboration with food architects Bompas & Parr, Biscuiteers and Tate Lyle.
It has certainly caused a stir on this famous high street.
