Those fabulous people at the Meaningful Chocolate Company have created the UK’s only Fairtrade Advent calendar. The Real Advent Calendar hopes to put the Christ back into Christmas. It has a window for each day of December, behind which is a Belgian Fairtrade chocolate star and a line from the Christmas story. When you open the final, over-sized window, a chocolate star and a beautifully-illustrated, 24-page copy of the Nativity story is revealed.
At least 10p from each Real Advent Calendar sold will be donated to The Children’s Society. The Children’s Society wants to create a society where children and young people are valued, respected and happy. They are committed to helping vulnerable and disadvantaged young people, including children in care and young runaways. They give a voice to disabled children, help young refugees to rebuild their lives and provide relief for young carers. Through their campaigns and research, they seek to influence policy and perceptions so that young people have a better chance in life.
The Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu said: ‘The Real Advent Calendar offers a unique way to share the Christmas story while supporting The Children’s Society and Fairtrade. I believe it will be widely welcomed by all. The Real Advent Calendar is a chance to educate, stimulate our thinking and do good.’
Real Advent Calendars are available at Tesco or directly from The Meaningful Chocolate Company.
