Hope you had a cool yule

I must be honest. I needed to make a festive cake for an event…Pronto! I’m not sure why, but I went back in time (waaay back), to my Home Economics class in secondary school.

Robin

One of the things we were taught to make was a chocolate yule log: basically a swiss roll, covered with chocolate buttercream and either decorated with a plastic robin or ‘Season’s Greetings’ written in gold paper.

Merry Christmas

I thought I’d revive and old tradition, but have juzzed it up a notch: A chocolate and vanilla buttercream swiss roll, covered with vanilla buttercream (out came the fork for the tree bark texture) and decorated with edible glitter and sparkles.

Iced gems
I added some snowflakes to the cake board and some mini cupcakes, which if you ask me, look like giant iced gems…Retrotastic? Who me?
