I’ve been making Oreo cookie buttercream for some time now, and it’s always been a big hit with children and adults alike. But I’ve secretly always wanted to create a giant cookie shaped cake (in fact, I have had this idea as a stand-by for a birthday cake for one of my daughters). Well sometimes you have to be careful what you wish for. Last week, which I named ‘Last minute cake week’, I received several last minute cake orders. One order was for a girl who likes….you’ve guessed it…Oreo Cookies.
I made this giant cookie from two layers of rich chocolate cake, which was sandwiched together with chocolate and Oreo cookie buttercream. I presented the cake on an 18” board (and yes, I did do the door-frame test, to see if it would all fir through the door) surrounded by a dozen chocolate and Oreo cookie buttercream cupcakes, with their own individual Oreo cookie (what’s not to like).
The cake set was collected and the customer seemed happy with it all. Later that evening, I received a text saying:
“The cake was a hit, thanks alot.”
Job done and off to bed I went, after a week of last minute cakes.
